“break-in”和“run-in”是机械英语中两个意思相近的词汇,现有的一些英汉科技词典对两者不加区别,统统译为“跑(磨)合”或“走合”。 1975年,在伦敦召开的国际会议上,讨论了发动机活塞环的粘着磨损问题,发表论文:“Piston RingScuffing”,其中“Discussion”一节有如下一段话:
“Break-in” and “run-in” are two similar words in mechanical English. Some existing English-Chinese scientific dictionaries make no distinction between them and are translated into “running (grinding)” or “walking together ”. In 1975, at an international conference in London, the issue of adhesion and wear of engine piston rings was discussed. The paper “Piston Ring Scuffing,” in which the “Discussion” section reads as follows:
