Stephen Davis’s research on the definition of art is not only focused on the definition of various definitions, but also provides unique insights on the theoretical outcomes of procedural and functional definitions. Through “The First Art,” how to establish this issue, Davis reflected on the theoretical blind spots in the institutional theory of art - that is, it is difficult to explain why the art system itself was established and without the support of the art system, How works become a matter of art. From another perspective, Davis’s discussion of the issue cut the understanding of the art-defining plan itself-that it can be seen as a relatively universal basis for seeking an artistic consensus and common understanding.
