Objective: To observe the effect of repetitive length of GT promoter HO-1 gene on restenosis after coronary stent implantation. Methods: 187 patients undergoing coronary stenting were followed up for restenosis at 6 months. PCR and DNA sequencer to determine the number of HO-1 promoter GT repeats. The contents of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) before and 24 h and 48 h after operation were determined by high-sensitivity method. Results: There was no difference in the levels of IL-6 and CRP and the incidence of restenosis among all genotypes. The preoperative plasma IL-6 levels in patients with shorter GT were 33.3% lower than those in non-short GT carriers (P = 0.0008). Conclusion: HO-1 gene polymorphism does not affect the level of inflammatory mediators and restenosis after stent implantation, but may affect the inflammatory process of atherosclerosis.
