AIM: To investigate the modulation of ketamine in sympathetic cardiovascular activity in the central nervous system. METHODS: Spontaneous discharges of presympathetic neurons in the rostral ventrolateral medullae of 32 heads were recorded extracellularly in 25 urethane-anesthetized, triiodocophenol-phenol-braked and artificially ventilated male Sprague-Dawley rats. Metabolism is pressure-sensitive and projected onto the spinal cord. To observe the effect of ketamine, a selective NMDA receptor antagonist, on the discharge of presympathetic neurons. Results: Intravenous injection of different doses of ketamine (3, 6, 12 mg / kg) increased the discharge frequency of RVLM presympathetic neurons, and at the same time blocked the pressure sensitivity of these neurons in a dose-dependent manner. CONCLUSION: Ketamine regulates sympathetic cardiovascular activity by blocking the tonic inhibition of baroreceptor reflex in RVLM presympathetic neurons.
