High-potential employees are typically the top 5% of the top talent in an organization. It is generally accepted that these employees are the most capable and active in the business and are most likely to be promoted to positions of higher responsibility and authority. In order to properly and effectively assist these employees in preparing for leadership, organizations typically implement formal “high-potential talent plans.” However, our data shows that more than 40% of the employees who participate in the “High Potential Talent Program” are actually not suitable.
