Objective To understand the content of trace elements in the hair of normal population at different ages in esophageal cancer high incidence area and its changing trend. Methods A total of 120 normal residents over the age of 25 in Linzhou City were randomly selected and grouped according to age. Trace elements such as copper, zinc, calcium, iron, and selenium in hair were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (flame method) and fluorescence spectrometry. Results The Zn and Ca contents in hair of normal residents in different age groups in Linzhou city increased with age, and the contents gradually decreased. The correlation coefficients were zinc: r = -0.9042, calcium: r = -0.9381, P all less than 0.01. There was no significant change in iron content below the age of 55 and a significant decrease over the age of 55, P<0.01. Changes in copper are lower in the youth group, slightly higher in the middle-aged group, and lower after the age of 55. There was no difference in selenium content between the young group and the 55-year-old group, P>0.05. Conclusion The trace elements zinc, calcium, iron, selenium and other elements in hair were significantly reduced in people over 55 years old, and the proportion of copper and zinc was not stable.
