Our institute had participated in the background investigation of the site selection of Guangdong nuclear power stations. During the course of the investigation, the masses in the siting area contacted by Hong Kong residents and the residents in Hong Kong adjacent to it were experiencing a common fear of the radiation impact on the nuclear power plants. Even among some medical workers, they worry that the radiation of nuclear power plants will be detrimental to their health. In fact, this is entirely a misunderstanding. In fact, the impact of nuclear power station radiation on human health is far less than that of other fuels using existing fuels. For example, thermal power stations emit much more radioactive pollution than nuclear power stations, and a large amount of chemical substances and ash also pollute the environment. The reason why people are so sensitive to the pollution problem of nuclear power plants is, in the final analysis, due to the lack of knowledge of ionizing radiation. Therefore, it is extremely necessary to elaborate on the biological effects caused by nuclear radiation both in academic and popularization.
