Increased glucose in beta cells leads to an increase in the ratio of ATP to ADP, which in turn leads to depolarization of the K-channel and Ca2 + influx to insulin secretion and lower blood glucose. Therefore, it is hypothesized that the KATP channel in β-cells in which the gene mutation causes β-cells is less sensitive to the elevation of ATP-ADP, which in turn leads to insufficient insulin secretion resulting in diabetes.
