According to the statistics of the World Food Program, the world’s population increased by 81% from 1951 to 1980 with an average annual rate of increase of 2%. In the same period, the world’s grain output increased by 104% with an average annual rate of increase of about 2.4%. According to the 1977 U.S. President’s World Report 2000, according to the world’s population of 4.09 billion in 1975 as the base and the annual average population growth rate of 1.8%, the world population will reach about 6.35 billion by the year 2000. At that time, world food production must be 90% above 1970 levels.
