Western philosophy in the twentieth century has had a clear turn of linguistics since the 1950s. This shift has been concentrated in recent years on topics like discourse and reading and understanding related to discourse. This new focus on discourse, discourse, and understanding makes sense for those engaged in reading research. However, the actual situation is that on the one hand, reading researchers are “calling theories” and on the other hand, they are totally ignorant of the new developments in reading theory.
