Thymidine deoxyribonucleosides (TdR) are precursors of synthetic DNA, such as technetium, which can accurately mark nuclei that are in the DNA synthesis phase. In cell populations, the marker particles appear as a cell division in the daughter cell nuclei, move with the marker cells, or fall off with dead cells. Therefore, ~3H-TdR autoradiography can reflect the entire process of proliferation, migration, differentiation, and shedding of gastric mucosa.
