航天育种(SpaceflightBreeding)也称空间诱变育种,是指利用返回式卫星和高空气球将农作物种子或其它材料搭载到距地球20-40km的高空,在强辐射、微重力、高真空、超洁净等太空诱变因子的作用下,使其发生遗传性状变异,利用有益变异选育出农作物新品种的育种新技术。它是航天技术、生物技术和农业遗传育种技术相结合的产物。近年来,我国科学工作者探索利用空间环境条件来进行作物遗传改良,并取得了一些很有价值的研究资料和世界领先水平的研究成果。
