As a child, Jules Verne was called Nantes and lived in a small town in France. He ran away once as a child and came upon a small boy that was crying. The boy told Verne that he had to leave his family on a ship, but he didn’t want to. So Verne took his place on the ship. He was glad to be going to explore the world, but his father caught up with the ship before it got very far and took him home to punish him. After that Verne said he would only travel in his imagination, and he did. Verne wanted to be a writer and wanted to write plays very much. As a young man he went to Paris and hang out (经常出现于) at the local theaters and soon became friends with all the play writers there. That’s how he met Alexander Dumas (大仲马), who wrote adventure stories that interested Verne very much. Verne decided to write one of his own, an adventure about the ever so popular hot-air balloon trips of the time.
Success was not easy for him, though. He didn’t know much about science and he had a wife and two children to take care of. So he would wake up early each morning and do work and research before he went to work to support his family. Once he felt he knew enough about science he began to write his story in the morning. Luckily, his book was finally published by a person named Hetzel.
Jules Verne was the first to write a believable story about a person going to the moon. Verne used his knowledge of science to write a book about it. Thanks to his book, people started thinking about going to the moon more realistically. After Jules Verne died in 1905, other authors started writing about space. Children would read Verne’s books and dream of growing up to build rockets. Because of Verne’s books the dream of the moon landing was added with stronger wings.

U.S. woman first to run Boston marathon in orbit (空间轨道) BOSTON (Reuters) — An American astronaut became the first person to run the Boston Marathon in space on Monday, completing the 26.2 miles on a treadmill (跑步机) in the International Space Station.
Suni Williams, who was an official newcomer in the race, took 4 hours 23 minutes 46 seconds, said John Yembrick, a spokesman for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
On Earth, Williams has run marathons in about 3[12]hours.
Williams said in a press meeting early this month: “Just the fact that I’m running that much slower is going to be a little bit tedious (冗长乏味的) because it’s going to be a long time on the treadmill.
Race officials were not able to count out her finishing spot immediately, but based on last year’s results, she would be ranked at about 6,300th place among about 7,600 women runners.
Williams ran in steady (稳定的) 75 degree Fahrenheit (23.8 Celsius) temperatures in the still air of the space station.
She faced very different conditions from the cold rain, 50mph (80kph) maximum wind and 50 degree Fahrenheit (10 Celsius) temperatures handled by her competitors.
While many of the athletes complained that the weather conditions has contributed to a slow, uncomfortable race, Lidiya Grigoryeva, the women’s champion, said she’d been ready for it.
“During the training in Russia, the weather conditions were similar to the conditions today.” Grigoryeva, told reporters after the race.
Williams, 41, finished among the top 100 women in the 2006 Houston Marathon.
She has been in orbit since December and has trained on a special treadmill.

A
3.A。 Children would read Verne’s books and dream of growing up to build rockets.
Suni Williams, who was an official newcomer in the race可知Suni Williams是此次马拉松比赛的正式参赛队员,故其比赛成绩会被组委会承认。
