This article takes Guangdong Pearl River Delta students as an example to interpret American inspirational film “When Happiness Comes to Door” to discuss the influence of media globalization on the adolescent identity in our country. This paper proposes the theoretical framework of “schema competition”. The process of interpreting Hollywood works by the PRD students is the process in which young individuals compare and compete with the original schema in the mind and the Western schema presented by Hollywood films. The empirical study shows that there are three modes of schema competition: one is the schema equilibrium, the other is the enhancement of the original schema, and the other is the adoption of the new schema. Although the Tertiary students reinforce the old schema in the aspects of money concept and life style, they tend to adopt western schemata at the core values such as individualism and free and equal values. In general, exposure to the global media has weakened the recognition of the PRD students in their own culture.
