Objective To investigate the expression of interleukin-20 in serum of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and its influencing factors. Methods Serum levels of interleukin-20 (IL-20) in 55 rheumatoid arthritis patients and 29 normal controls were detected by double antibody sandwich ABC-ELISA. The correlation between IL-20 levels and the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatoid factor, C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate was analyzed. Results The level of IL-20 in the peripheral blood of active rheumatoid arthritis patients was significantly higher than that of the normal control group (P <0.01), which was statistically significant. The level of IL-20 in rheumatoid arthritis patients had no significant correlation with RF, CRP and ESR. Conclusion IL-20 may be involved in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis, suggesting further study.
