A series of novel phosphonoacetic acid derivatives, N-(ethoxycarbonylmethy-ethoxyphosphonyl)-α-amino acid esters and α-amino phosphonates, were synthesized via the reaction of the corresponding phosphonyl chloride with amino acid ester hydrochlorides or amino phosphonates in the presence of a base.
