Many operational factors interfere with the workflow and productivity of radiation oncologists and medical physicists in the performance of their daily professional activities.Clinical personnel lack a customized,portable information tool set for effective and efficient control of the widely distributed and multiformatted reports,images and documentation required for direct patient care and the quality management program.This lecture describes a system we are designing at Tufts-New England Medical Center that will use mobile wireless hand-held and tablet digital communications devices,automatic speech recognition technology and access to medical images and other clinical data from multiple sources.RODA(The Radiation Oncology Digital Assistant)applications include dictation,documenta-tion,drug information,ordering and reviewing test results,treatment planning,quality assurance and access to the Internet.
