Missile manufacturers are busy developing the next generation of missiles, but have not heard of major orders. Hughes’s Advanced Mid-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) was delayed and overrun, but the company’s new owner, General Motors, did not have to worry about the bomb being canceled. NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Need to equip too many planes. Hughes will also propose to develop a ship-launching SAMAR that can use the standard NATO Sea Sparrow launcher. Obviously no booster is needed and there is still a 24 km range, but it has no vertical launch capability. Raytheon, the second maker of AMRAAM, believes it can reduce the cost of A-MRAAM based on the experience of a sparrow.
