The Standard of English Curriculum (2011 Edition) (hereinafter referred to as the “Standard”) states: The overall goal of the English Curriculum for Compulsory Education is to enable students to develop initial comprehensive language proficiency through English learning (Ministry of Education, 2012 ). Comprehensive language skills include: language skills, language knowledge, emotional attitude, learning strategies and cultural awareness. Among them, the language skills in the first place.
