自揚雄撰《法言》,其《君子篇》說:“多愛下忍,子長也。仲尼多愛,愛義也;子長多愛,愛奇也。”此後,應助、劉攬、司馬貞、趙匡乃至當今著名學者楊伯峻先生,均有所承襲和發揮,然而卻貶多褒少;似乎是司馬遷的“愛奇”在某種程度亡妨礙了他的“實錄”精神,與他的“實錄”精神形成了矛盾,從而影響子《史記》的價值。其間最有代表性的,要算是比揚雄稍後的東漢班彪了。
