Advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) are a class of complex chemical molecules whose formation is closely related to the development of diabetic cataract. Studies have shown that AGE can lead to the formation of diabetic cataracts either directly or through the action of the corresponding receptors. By inhibiting the formation of AGE and other drugs can significantly delay the onset of diabetic cataracts. This article reviews the biochemical characteristics of AGE, the mechanisms leading to diabetic cataract, the detection methods, drug research and drug treatment methods.
