China is the hometown and cradle of woodcut prints. The oldest surviving Chinese woodblock print is the picture of the “Diamond Sutra, G-to-Lonely Garden” found in Dunhuang. It is the painting of the “Diamond Sutra” by Tang Xian-tong (868) Woodcut “St Christopher’s Figure” (1423) as early as 555 years. In the early 14th century, with the opening of the Silk Road and the expedition of the Mongol armies, ancient Chinese woodcut prints spread to Europe. However, ancient Chinese woodcut prints experienced the festivals of Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, Yuan and Ming Dynasty
