Over the past three decades, popular music has undergone great changes, but the most commonly used electric guitar to play pop music has remained the same. Until recently, engineer George Bowley managed to get rid of the steel strings and most of the circuitry on normal electric guitars, replacing them with light-guiding fibers. Under the strings of an ordinary electric guitar there is a magnet wound with a coil, the strings passing through the magnet to create a magnetic field. When the string is struck by a plucked vibrate, it can disturb the magnetic field. Then the coil converts the changed magnetic field into a current, which can be amplified into a musical sound.
