美国作家舍伍德·安德森和中国作家沈从文作为各自国家转型时期重要的现代主义小说家,在文学史上的地位不容忽视。然而,迄今为止国内对舍伍德·安德森和沈从文的比较研究涉猎较少,可参考的资料有限。本文将瞩目两位作家的代表作《小城畸人》和《边城》,侧重论述现代主义主题在这两部作品中的不同呈现,结论部分同时也指出他们都在各自的作品中传递了对人的生存状态的终极关怀。
American writer Sherwood Anderson and Chinese writer Shen Congwen, as important modernist novelists in their country’s transitional period, can not be ignored in the history of literature. However, to date, comparative studies on Sherwood Anderson and Shen Congwen have been scarce in the country, and the limited data available. This article will focus on the two writers’ masterpieces, “The Tale of the Little City” and “Border Town,” focusing on the different presentations of modernist themes in these two works. The conclusion also points out that both of them convey the existence of human beings in their works The ultimate concern of the state.
