In this paper, a college non-English graduate student as a speaker, English majors and Anglo-American students as a listener, examines the listener’s perception of the speaker’s accent and the speaker’s accent on the comprehension of the listener. The study found that both English and Chinese native speakers believe that prosodic features are most related to accent perception, while there is a big difference in the relationship between accent and verbal comprehension. English native speakers think the prosodic feature has the closest relationship with the speech comprehension, while the Chinese native speaker believes that the prosodic feature can not play a decisive role in the process of speech comprehension. The results of this study bring some inspiration to the construction of L2 phonetic acquisition theory and phonetic teaching.
