This article describes the optical problems of video record players. The band width and playback time of the record are respectively 12 MHz and 30 minutes. With a fully calibrated objective with a numerical aperture of at least 0.4, a high quality output signal can be obtained on the photodetector used for readout. This paper points out several different readout methods and trajectory shapes; and briefly discusses the methods of generating radial tracking and focusing servo tracking signals.
