The telomere telomerase hypothesis is a newly proposed new theory of tumor formation. The telomere is a DNA protein complex with a stabilizing function that maintains chromosomes at the end of chromosomes of eukaryotic cells. Telomerase is an RNA-dependent DNA polymerase. Activation of telomerase stabilizes the telomere length, and the cells gain indefinitely. The ability to proliferate becomes an immortal cell, and obtaining immortality is a critical step in the malignant transformation of the cell. Recent studies have shown that measuring telomerase activity in various specimens of lung cancer not only contributes to the diagnosis of lung cancer, but also can be used to judge the degree of malignancy, pathological stage, and prognosis of lung cancer. Telomerase is expected to be a valuable marker for the diagnosis of lung cancer.
