The total length of the main canal of the mid-route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project is 1427.17Km, of which about hundreds of millions of m3 are involved in earth-rockfill construction. Therefore, the quality inspection of construction projects is particularly crucial. However, the conventional detection methods are inefficient and not conducive to the progress and cost of the project. This article focuses on the comparative analysis of the nuclear densimeter method and the ring knife method in a project of South-to-North Water Diversion. The feasibility of nuclear densitometry is demonstrated by mathematical model analysis and field test.
