BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Regardless of how the anti-HCV test is improved, there is such a condition that antibodies are produced some time after infection during which viral RNA is present in the circulating blood. The authors used a prototype of early HCV infection to evaluate a prototype assay for serological detection of HCV core antigens. MATERIALS AND METHODS Continuous samples of 24 HCV seroconversion patients were tested for anti-HCV, HCV RNA, and HCV core antigens.
