In recent years, due to the shortage of coal and power supply in India, plus the demand of the Indian government that the only 6 major domestic steelmakers increase their steel output, the domestic pig iron production will drop and the monthly output will not reach the production target. In 1981-1982, India plans to produce 1.45 million tonnes of pig iron (1.2 million tonnes in the previous year), with an average monthly output of about 125,000 tonnes.
