Since Bradner et al. applied yeast cell wall polysaccharides to treat cancer in 1958, many scholars have conducted in-depth studies on polysaccharides of natural origin. Dextran is considered to be one of the most effective non-specific immunotherapeutic agents for tumors. The lentinan prepared from Lentinus edodes aqueous solution belongs to β(1→3) type glucan. It has been widely studied in experimental animals, but the mechanism of action on the human body is poorly understood. This article reports the effects of lentinan on DNA synthesis and immunoglobulin production by human peripheral mononuclear cells (PMNCs, mainly lymphocytes) as well as interferon-induced and non-specific cell-mediated cytotoxicity.
