In maternal serum, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and its free beta-subunit are the most distinguishable markers of Down syndrome screening. The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of gapped free beta-subunit in pregnancies of normal pregnancy and fetal Down syndrome. Sixty-four pregnant women with normal fetal karyotype of one fetus with gestational age of 13-18 gestational weeks and 6 pregnant women with Down syndrome were selected before amniocentesis.
