印度是佛教的发祥地,佛教自东汉时期从印度传人中国,经过汉文化的融合改造,形成了影响深远的中华佛教文化。这些20世纪出土的印度波罗王朝的佛教铜造像给我们传递出一些相关信息。相传佛教为古印度公元前6世纪至前5世纪的迦毗罗卫国(今尼泊尔境内)王子乔达摩·悉达多所创立,是南亚次大陆上继婆罗门教(印度教的前身)之后兴起的一大宗教,并在3世纪下半叶开始不断向古印度境外传播,逐渐发展成为世界三大宗教之一。而
