By analyzing the metaphors of the uterus and scholar in the novel, the article expounds that the reading room of the British Museum symbolizes all the outdated and oppressive human rights including the academic mechanism and the Catholic doctrine in the novel. The title of the novel The collapse of the British Museum symbolizes the collapse of reason and theology, and the end is a manifestation of today’s world secularization.
