Previous studies have found that the previous experience led by the new product development team is an important determinant of product innovation, but the study concludes the opposite. One reason is that there is no distinction between sources of previous experience, such as successful experience and unsuccessful experiences; another reason is that the positive and negative effects of prior experience are not tested at the same time. Based on this, the research takes the new product development project as the research scenario, explores the non-linear impact of the project’s failure experience on product innovation, and investigates the intermediary role of the three dimensions of the interactive memory system in this non-linear relationship. The research shows that the experience of project failure has an inverted U effect on product innovation and team professionalism.
