The year 2000 was a year in which many shrimp-feeding countries were in trouble, and the problem of shrimp diseases affected the global market supply. With the exception of Venezuela and Brazil, production in all Latin American countries has dropped to its lowest level. The demand for shrimp in Japan has just recovered in the first half of the year and dropped sharply in the second half of the year. This situation did not change significantly in 2001.
