This study uses association analysis method to compare the psychological significance of the word “SARS” to male and female college students during “SARS”. The participants are 520 college students in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The results showed that the SARS perspective of men focused on “disease”, emphasizing “hard” information and controlling and treating the masses. In the perspective of SARS of women, “human” as the center, they emphasized “soft” information and emphasized individual prevention. In the subjective response, men’s negative emotions are higher than women’s associations; women’s negative associations are higher than men’s. These results, which differ from studies of gender differences in “vulnerability” in previous stress responses, can be interpreted from a gender perspective.
