The microstructure of high-strength concrete (HSC) will be described below. Focus on ordinary concrete and HSC in the cement slurry, as well as the interface between the aggregate and matrix differences. HSCs have much lower porosity, more uniform hardened cement bodies, significantly different hydration product distributions, improved C-S-H gel compositions, and fundamentally different interfacial areas than plain concrete. Based on the microstructural features, some aspects of HSC durability are discussed.
