Children in China are participating in a great social change. In order to build a socialist society, they are being trained and nurtured. They are a new generation born out of the new education system. This system of education developed as an anti-individualist and minority privileged class. Its purpose is clearly stipulated not only to prevent individualism and pride and complacency, but also to encourage children to be “loyal to their people.” Should this be achieved? Should it be achieved? Does this mean restrained personality? I have asked myself and others about these and many similar issues. In reply to these questions, I would like to report on the two kindergartens I have seen in Beijing and Guangzhou. Kindergarten is not yet popular in China. However, in spite of this, the proportion of children aged two and a half entering the park is still higher than that of our “advanced” society
