以市民社会理论来分析商团事变的学者,因受国家与社会对立一元论研究取向的影响,通常着意于以商人为主体的“市民社会”同孙中山政府对抗的一致性,却忽略了其内部的差异性,即商人回应商团事变的心态层面的复杂性,而这种差异性、复杂性往往是“市民社会”能否最终形成的重要依据。事实证明,在广州商人应对商团事变的价值取向中,生命权与财产权始终是第一位的,其“参与政治”主要是为了能否更好地推动这两大目标的实现,但远未“膨胀”至建立“商人政府”的程度。就此而言,“在商言商”的传统理念在国民革命初期广州商人的“政治参与”中仍居支配地位。
