This paper reports the determination of the reaction constant of O (~ 3P) atoms with butanone at 288K. O (~ 3P) atoms are generated by a mobile microwave discharge device and detected by the generation of NO 2 chemiluminescence. The reaction rate constant is measured for the molecular orbital discussion of this reaction. In atmospheric chemistry, ketones are thought to be produced by the photooxidation of hydrocarbons by NO x
