Tim O’Brien’s novel Pursuit of Casey Eito is a masterpiece in the American literature on Vietnam war. The novel tells the story of the American soldier, Berlin, who pursues the desertion of Casey Eyre in his imagination. The timing of the novel is extremely chaotic, so readers are extremely confused. This narrative chaos stems from the extremely chaotic memory of the narrator Berlin, from the side reflects the thinking of confusion and emotional trauma caused to soldiers by the Vietnam War. The narrative technique of the novel fully reflects the time theory of Reynolds’ narratology. By using the narrative techniques of time series and time-frequency, the author reveals the trauma brought by the war and perfectly combines the narrative skills and the theme.
