档案鉴定工作有广义和狭义之分。广义的档案鉴定工作是指对档案真伪、档案价值和档案开放的鉴定。而狭义的档案鉴定工作则仅指对档案价值的鉴定,即鉴别和判定档案的价值,挑选有保存价值的档案妥善保存,剔除没有保存价值的档案并予以处置的过程。一般所讲的档案鉴定工作是指狭义的档案鉴定工作,即档案价值鉴定工作。我国档案行业标准《档案工作基本术语》 File identification work has broad and narrow sense.
