2014~2015年,福建沿海水下考古调查队在平潭西北面的老牛礁海域调查时,确认一处明代沉船遗址。沉船遗址位于老牛礁东南面,高平潮水深约14米。底质为泥质海床,较平坦。该沉船遗址曾遭不法分子多次盗捞,遗址表面还可见到因盗掘留下的大坑。大量遗物散落于海床表面,面积约200平方米。还发现部分船体残骸,大部分埋于海床之中,仅局部露出海床,部分船板上还可见厚约1厘米的黑色木炭,初步推断该船在沉没前曾发生火灾。
From 2014 to 2015, the Fujian Coastal Underwater Archeology Investigation Team confirmed a Ming Dynasty shipwreck site during a survey of the Laosoujiao waters northwest of Pingtan. Shipwreck site is located in the southeast cow vestibule, Gao Ping tide water depth of about 14 meters. Sediment is a muddy seabed, more flat. The shipwreck site has been fooled many times by lawless elements, the surface of the site can also be seen due to digging pit left. A large number of relics scattered on the surface of the seabed, an area of about 200 square meters. Also found that part of the hull wreckage, most buried in the sea bed, only partially exposed sea floor, some of the ship board can also see a black charcoal about 1 cm thick, initially concluded that the ship had a fire before sinking.
