It is well-known that pest populations can develop resistance to pesticides. An excellent example of this is Heliothis ssp., A highly adaptive pest that infests cotton. In order to achieve long-term results, the genetic engineering program for the development of insecticidal crops (including cotton) requires consideration of the potential of pest adaptation. With the pattern of the H. armigera complex, one can see how the pests can be affected by the participation of geneticists, evolutionary biologists and ecologists
