In half a century of post-war history, the Japanese government and SDF officials have been faced with a realistic and difficult question - which fighter jets are equipped for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. This is a systemic issue that includes many factors, including military, economic and political aspects. Each time Japan Airlines SDF is refashioned, the various factors of this issue will be different from the past. However, the complexity of the issue is more evident than once. This time around, in a new round of discussions surrounding the renewal of the F-18’s aircraft, Japan’s military observers believe Japan is looking at whether the United States will provide the F-22 as a gesture, from which it can see whether the United States is willing to fulfill it Japan’s obligations under Japan’s security treaties.
