教材所取人面网纹盆是1955年在半坡遗址中出土的。与此相同或类似的彩陶盆,在临潼姜寨、宝鸡北首岭等同类遗址中均有发现,总数已超过10例。绘有这种人面图案的彩陶盆已成为半坡文化的典型标记。这类彩陶盆大都有近似的人面纹饰于盆内壁,对称成双。与人面纹相间的图案或是如教材所取陶盆的网纹,或为鱼形,也有其它动物的图案。陶盆本身一般都是红色,外表粗糙,内壁光滑。盆上、盆内壁上的花纹、图案均为黑色。对居中位的人面鱼纹的解释,众说纷纭,但大多数专家认为它具有图腾崇拜的意
