东汉曹不兴是我国第一位创作佛像题材绘画的画师,距今已有千年之久,所画题材多以西方宗教传入为主。随后有关佛教题材的绘画随着历代治国与民众的精神需要,日益兴隆,出现了一大批创作有关此类题材的杰出画家和优秀绘画作品。此类题材已成为人们不可或缺的精神食粮,有时它已超越了绘画本身的含义。出生于文人荟萃署地成都的邓敬民,就是画佛像的妙手。其妙处不仅在于其深得佛画之技法,更是把主体人物赋予有机的生命体,使佛成了可敬可信的精神象征。毕业于武汉大学图书馆专业的邓敬民,本属重点培养的学术坯子,天生就有一种文人气质,虽然身处现代都市,但有一颗文人的古心。常去茶蓬喝茶、高谈阔论、以文会友已成了他获得灵感的生活方式。敬民深知新时期的佛像题材绘画也要多一份文气,才能跟得上当代人的审美需求。佛像绘画是一种特殊的画种,他与人类的情感信仰相连,这也使得敬民对此有了过多的思考。邓敬民早年拜师彭先成先生,专攻写意人物,后来对佛像题材的绘画着了迷,执意“转而向佛”。画坛上不乏转而向佛的高人,张大千就是其中的一位,历经万里,长途跋涉赴敦煌研习壁画,终成硕果。敬民有前师借鉴,不辞辛劳,十几年来,为广收营养,开阔视野,遍历敦煌,云冈、大足、安岳、麦积山等石窟,尽览天下壁画,为后日勃发作了充分的准备。敬民作品的成功之处,在于他把握了打动读者的情。有了学养做积淀,加上天资聪颖、勤奋刻苦,用自己的视角来审视此类传统绘画,不盲目跟风,而是另辟蹊径。其可贵之处就是赋此类题材以鲜活的生命,观音像骨肉丰美,肌可动人,既有神灵的威严,又有世间温情倚人。菩萨并不是遥不可及的冰冷形象,敬民笔下的菩萨有了“世情未尽”的所托,有了真切的情感交流,传递着真挚的慈爱,和平之爱,这也是其绘画作品的魅力所在。
