Objective To investigate the changes of serum nitric oxide (NO), total nitric oxide synthase (TNOS), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in Chinese Han and Uygur tuberculosis patients after anti-TB drug treatment. Enzyme (e NOS) content and ethnic differences. Methods A total of 129 Han patients and 122 Uyghur patients with pulmonary tuberculosis were enrolled in this study. Serum NO levels were determined by nitrate reductase method and nitric oxide synthase content was determined by chemical method. Results Serum NO levels were (124.62 ± 18.24) and (89.98 ± 13.28) μmol·L -1 in Han and Uygur nationality patients respectively. Serum TNOS, iNOS and eNOS concentrations were (29.79 ± 2.77) and 22.42 ± 3.36 and 7.37 ± 3.56 U · m L -1, respectively. The Uygur patients were (25.25 ± 3.57), (18.90 ± 2.47), (6.34 ± 2.66) U · m L -1 ). The serum NO, TNOS and iNOS concentrations in Uighur patients were significantly lower than those in Han patients (P <0.05). The NO concentrations in both ethnic men were higher than those in Han women (P <0.05). NO content in both ethnic groups was significantly higher than the partial fat group and normal group (P <0.01). Analysis of the type of treatment and the type of sputum examination showed no significant difference in NO and nitric oxide synthase between the two ethnic groups (P> 0.05). Conclusion NO participates in the immune function of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, and its content is different in two ethnic groups. This study can provide references for the related mechanisms of NO expression in different ethnic tuberculosis patients.
