“The Birth of Tragedy” mainly expounds Nietzsche’s non-rationalist philosophical thinking. Nietzsche believed that the origins of art come from two kinds of human impulses: the spirit of the gods and the spirit of the god of wine. Jain spirit is a kind of beautification instinct, is to use joy to cover up the pain and thus forget the pain; Dionysian spirit is a stressed vent, break all worldly fetters, enjoyment. Socrates’ rational spirit stifles both of these irrational instincts and leads to the demise of tragedies and the desolation of modern art. Only the revival of Dionysus spirit can save the deadly modern art.
